Papa went to foreign lands
\nto walk a mile
\nin foreign sands
\nhe tried to teach men
\nright from wrong
\nbut found his cry
\nfor God in song
\nHe opened his heart
\nto dream a great dream
\nand his dream did
\nswallow him whole
\nso it seemed<\/p>\n
Some men sit in places
\nwhere shadows grow long
\nand wonder inside
\nabout what could have been
\nbut papa moves heaven
\nas he carries his song
\nand looks on in wonder
\nat all he has seen<\/p>\n
Never did he ask
\nwhat the cost might be
\nor consider more than once
\nwhat loss he might see
\nfor his life was indeed
\nnot his own<\/p>\n
I am the son of a dreamer
\nand a product of change
\nwith a new road to follow
\nas i look for my name
\nI’ve tried out these limbs
\non the road he has travelled
\nand have found our stride
\nnot the same<\/p>\n
I have watched from afar
\nas he shoulders his load
\nand looks for a right arm to hold
\nand i grieve a great sorrow
\nthat i’m not within reach
\nand my strength is not
\nhis to borrow<\/p>\n
Some days I feel
\nI have lost a great friend
\nyet somehow i am proud of this pain
\nand yet it still is so hard
\nand yet is still is my joy
\nhow do i laugh and cry
\nlike I did as a boy?<\/p>\n
I hope it is strength to his frame
\nas he walks sunset trails
\nto know that his son
\nhas been blessed by his hand
\nand will ever be proud
